I have a dream: CS on Linux

The recent buzz I find amusing. I don't like Apple and never have for various reasons. However, I think it is time Adobe wake up. And no it's not to fix the countless of un-specific bugs and browser crashings that so many commenters like to mention without really mentioning. You know, those statements like, Flash is a "resource hog", "Flash crashed my browser" etc. It's not those because I build Flash projects everyday, and they run peachy keen when put through our everyday QA paces. It's time to put the proverbial weight behind an un-tapped resource. A resource that is yearning for input, collaboration and improvements (imho). Lets get CS on linux!
I know I know, ludicrous even thinking that. But and there is a but, Adobe has already made leaps in supporting Open Source communities so why not push a little further.  The evil Adobe Google collobration as so many bloggers put it, is in fact a great thing. Not because Flash will run better and ship with Chrome, no it's because the end goal is a plugin architecture standard. Something which is overdue and will have a tremendous impact on user experiences. Case in point, Tinic's post "Press any key to continue" about the inconsistencies across browsers when it comes to idling the Flash Player when not visible.

I'm an Ubuntu Flash Developer and I have to say I struggle to pull myself in front of my XP machine to use CS. But I think Zarko has a point. All Adobe's envangelists are using macs and the trend is very popular amongst Flash/Flex developers. The reason is collectively, a Mac works better. Go to any Adobe conference and you'll feel a little like the kid with a packed lunch with jam covered bread (made with love). What if a collective shift happens and Adobe hands out Ubuntu laptops to it's staff and evangelists. What if. Why not?

I think there is a huge untapped market, the Linux community is in need of some serious graphic editing software. GIMP is great but it isn't Photoshop. Imagine Linux, the new elitest, offering superb user experience, the best development platform in the world and the option to have the best creative suite in the world. Mastercard ad.

As far as the war goes, I think it has only just started. Adobe might look like the dog with its tail between its legs but it has a little friend called Google. I like Google, I like the fact that their engineers get 20% free time to spend on their own projects. It's non-traditional. It's outside of the box. Propriety and Open Source Software can work together and work well. Google proved it. Now Adobe just need to wake-up and smell the coffee.
